The Honest Homestead

Architect // MB Net Dezign

Description

Accessibility and functionality were the primary motivators for the addition and renovation of this home in Hollis, New Hampshire. The original house lacked fundamental spaces on the main level that compromised the basic efforts of everyday living for one of its primary homeowners. This 840 square foot single level addition provides a fully compliant, wheelchair accessible bedroom, bathroom, closet, laundry room, and building entrance. Though the newly added programmatic spaces are simple gestures, they provide the utmost independence and self-sufficiency. Together the interior and exterior spaces embrace the natural beauty of the existing land, treescape, and brook. The timber frame aesthetic, combined with a contemporary flare, was an important factor for the owners, who have a deep appreciation for New England farmhouse design. The impact of this project displays how pure and honest design can be life changing and inspirational to all.
