Jurors’ Overall Comments

Many architects and designers strive to make the world a better place. In this time of such daunting challenges of climate change and social inequity, the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence objectively represents principles of not just good design but a reminder of design’s power to change the world. In using this framework as an initial lens, your jury was struck with many examples of thoughtful and well-considered design: Concern for the environment; Concern for user experience, regardless of physical ability; Concern for the past as well as hope for a better future. Whether or not a project has been selected for recognition, in service of making the world a better place, this process is about celebrating all accomplishments.
