The 2020 AIA New Hampshire Design Awards introduced the requirement of applying one of the defining measures of the AIA Framework of Design Excellence.   This year’s submissions required a minimum of two principal concepts from the Framework; continuing the chapter’s mission to advocate for sustainability.

The Framework for Design Excellence represents the defining principles of good design in the 21st century. Comprising 10 principles and accompanied by searching questions, the framework seeks to inform progress toward a zero carbon, equitable, resilient, and healthy built environment.  The framework is intended to be accessible and relevant for every architect, every client, and every project, regardless of size, typology, or aspiration.

This year we had 37 submissions to the Awards Program.   The jury selected 12 projects to recognize in these categories:

  • Excellence in Architecture Commercial/Institutional

  • Excellence in Architecture Residential

  • Small Projects/Small Firms

  • Unbuilt Architectural Design

  • Rick + Duffy Monahon Award for Design Excellence in Architectural Restoration & Preservation

  • (And, at the jury’s discretion this year) Excellence in Interior Architecture
